The President of the University, Dr. William G. von Peters, holds a Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine from Australia (where he is also licensed to practice), and a Master's degree in Chinese Medicine from China. He has been recognized in the Profession and greatly honored by being named a Visiting Professor at Heilongjiang Chinese Medical University. His professor is the famous Professor Jiang de You, whose professor is the famous Professor Jiang - recognized as one of the top three professors of Chinese Medicine in China.

Consequently, Oriental Medicine is dear to our President's heart. It is his belief that it is Oriental Medicine which will become the second great system of medicine in the United States; and believes training Oriental Medical Physicians to be a top priority in the growth of Oriental Medicine in the United States.

First National University has offered courses in acupuncture since the 1960s as part of its Naturopathic Medicine program, and began its Doctor of Oriental Medicine program in 1998.

Oriental Medicine, also known as TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)and Chinese Medicine, is fast becoming a major profession within the United States and abroad and represents an emerging profession for those seeking to learn this system of medicine with its antecedents dating back more than 3,000 years.

It has been practiced among the Asian population of the Pacific Rim for centuries in Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. In the past 30 years it has also begun to grow and be accepted among Westerners, particularly in America.
